Nice article on page 4 here: How does one accommodate 140 guests for a private event originally intended for 75? Well, if you are as creative, enthusiastic and generous as hosts David Hyde Pierce and Brian Hargrove, you use your imagination, employ the services of a professional piano mover, and count on the balmy mid-August Los Angeles weather to cooperate. With all these factors in place, world-acclaimed pianist Stephen Hough offered a ravishing solo program of works (ranging from Mozart and Schumann to his own compositions) to an eager audience which listened appreciatively, both inside our hosts’ Los Feliz home and outdoors on the tiled patio. The acoustics and sight-lines were of concert-hall quality, and Mr. Hough’s playing was, as always, world-class. Phyllis Diller, herself a highly accomplished pianist, was among the enthusiastic listeners, who were treated, after the program, to a delectable buffet dinner on beautifully appointed outdoor tables. The festive, celebratory occasion, thanks to our most generous hosts and supportive attendees, raised close to $40,000. Classical Action was particularly pleased to share these net proceeds with the Los Angeles-based Project Angel Food.

Don't we all wish we'd been to this one! Definitely! It was interesting to see that Millicent Martin was there. They really were a close cast, weren't they?

I'd have given anything to be at this. I've read this before.Doesn't it sound wonderful. Stephen Hough was in Glasgow last year performing Rachmaninov and I wasn't able to go. I was very sorry to miss it. I found an article on Stephen Hough in the Telegraph some time ago. Seems a very interesting person. If you read down you'll see reference to a 'sandy haired American actor'. D will be pleased that he describes him as having hair! (Sorry about the long link in advance. I'm looking for a nice person like Jules to tidy this up. I'm always doing this in hurry!) Click Herelink tidied by Jules

(The reference to the sandy-haired American actor was a "delightful bonus.") Another unpretentious artist who simply enjoys his craft. He is a fascinating person, indeed.

I liked this when talking about Pope John Paul II’s famous book Love and Responsibility - "You cannot offer such a radiant and dazzling vision of love and human relationships to your readers, and then exclude those who happen to have “green eyes”."
