I saw High Holidays last night and I love that episode more each time I see it. "Think and gooey: ganja in it purest form." Everything about Niles rebelling is hysterical. One of my favorite parts is the TV commercial with Eddie with Frasier's voice. It totally cracks me up.

i just watched the Two mrs. Cranes(season 4) and yeah i could watch it 100 times and STILL laugh at the way niles giggled when daphne said she was married to niles and clive told him " you're a lucky man"-- that was hilarious The "love toll" bit cracks me up every time. "Too much; here's your change." I love Niles (obviously), but the boy's lovesick desperation was pitiful sometimes. It was adorably pitiful, but pitiful nonetheless. I'll wrap this around to the SBSB discussion and say that it was about time Niles and Daphne got together by then. It became painful to watch the depths to which unrequited love drove this wonderful man; I just wanted to scream "End his agony already!!". Absolutely! 'First Date' is a bridge too far for me. It has some funny and sweet moments, but the central premise feels manipulative and Niles sinks to some pretty low depths. Just ask her out already!!

I think the fact that he's unable to ask her out in First Date, even though there's no reason why he shouldn't is what makes it interesting. Up to that point, there had always been some sort of obstacle, Maris, Joe, so you could understand the problem. But now suddenly he's in the position where he can actually have what he wants and it scares him.
My only problem with the ep is that the last scene feels like Mixed Doubles all over again only not quite as affecting.

Just ask her out already!!I'm uncomfortable with Decoys. It's very funny, but it's not exactly Niles' shining hour. He treats Roz, Donny, and Daphne pretty badly. For someone who gets nosebleeds when he violates his ethics, he should have needed a transfusion by the end of that episode.

He makes me cringe slightly. The whole Heart and Soul thing. I agree with Frasier - "Oh for God's sake, how long before the cartoon bluebird lands on her shoulder?!" ;D Yes, very true. Feels contrived and unlikely where 'Mixed Doubles' was effortless.

Take your point but I have to say I love 'Decoys' and quite enjoy Scheming Niles. And you can't say he doesn't get his comeuppance ...

The transfusion line was too good not to use, so I exaggerated a little. I agree that it's very fun to watch. If he were my brother or friend, though, I would definitely have been exasperated with his desperate behavior. Frasier's response at the end is perfect.

'Taps at the Montana'. Love when Niles is so totally in denial about Mr Probst dying. "Noo, he's sleeping! Old people love to nap!"
I kind of love the actress who plays Martin's unwanted paramour. "Marty did kill me! And he's got a lot to learn about playing gently!" ;D

The last one I saw was IQ. Drugged up Niles is hilarious. I love the part about him weeping and trying to revive the little plastic diver from the fish tank rofl.
