The proposal - Niles is so funny when hes in Nervosa and he's trying to get through his propsal with out crying , and when he does the actual thing he's so sweet even though he mentions Daphnes crusty nose which isnt the most romantic thing in the world . And i love the hug at the end . Love the emotion David brings to the proposal scene - and you've got to love Kelsey's tackle on the trumpeter - hilarious! I'm not a huge fan of the proposal scene, I have to admit. It's a little tedious. When he starts naming all her body parts you sort of think 'Where is he going with this?' Also, they should have kissed. The hug was a bit tame. Niles breaking down in Nervosa and Frasier's tackling of the trumpeter are great moments though.

I think if we all had a say in the proposal scene it would of been more romantic , the scence where he asks and they hug is very sweet but i like it ......but i has always bugged me that when he asks " will you marry me " she says " of course i will " it would of been nicer if she 'd just said a big fat yes ... and i agree a kiss would of been nicer

Yes, I agree that the proposal speech could have been better,(Dare I say it- Donny's was much more romantic), but I do love his emotion when he says, "Will you marry me?". That always gets to me. In general I would love to see them kissing more... but that's a whole other debate.

Reading about The Proposal made me go grab my season 9 DVD and watch that episode!
The whole proposal scene is definitely very "Niles-esque". It combines some sentimental feelings with comedy which is pretty hard to do. I admit, I would have liked something a bit more romantic, but it was done in the typical Frasier style. You have this romantic/touchy-feely scene and suddenly there's Frasier tackling the trumpeter. I thought it was more sweet that romantic.

I'm actually very glad they didn't go down the mushy/romantic route, but I still thought Niles's lines seemed off, somehow. Though I did like the thing about the crusty nose.

If I'd had to choose based on their proposals alone, I would've married Donny! That bit about chasing down the stars, I don't normally go in for all that sort of thing, but Saul Rubinek really sold it.
Niles's proposal was just such an anticlimax. All those years he had to come up with a good proposal speech and that was the best he could do! I found it a bit cringy.

EEEEEE I am so gald I am here- now on to the discussion- I enjoyed the Proposal also- I think they were going for sweet wonderful Niles(sigh)-- becuase I tell you when you go to season 10 and look at the ring cycle-- oh my goodness the first wedding was "fantastic" romantic sweet - heck even a hint of sexiness --- it makes me " choke up" everytime- which DPH always does when he gets earnest and honest with daphne----I also love at the end of seaosn 9 on the " guilt trippers" i think that is the name of the show- i LOVED when daphne went to Niles and told him she wanted to get married and he asked " why?!!!"- so cute and so like Niles to think that " what's up with this?"-- but it all turned into this sweet 2 min dialogue in which she tells him how much he means to her(becuase frankly I had gotten kinda POed at her earlier in the eppy when she acted so messy with my boy( anyway her dad set up straight- so it was good- NOW on to what you all asked- which was my last dose of Niles-- ]I was watching season 4 dvd's last night- so I had a marthon of sorts with- the two mrs cranes, head games and then finally miex doubles-- I LOVE those shows--- 2 mrs cranes crakcs me up everytime -- and how mad niles gets with frasier in Mixed doubles ( where daphne falls for "Niles-lite"- well I love to see niles really POed with frasier- that was cool seeing frasier try to " fix things" with niles- great discussion by the way

I too love 'The Ring Cycle' - thought it did a great job of being heartfelt and sweet, but the rough-and-ready (and hilarious) weddings kept it from being saccharine. And 'Guilt Trippers' is made brilliant by Brian Cox. But I feel 'The Proposal' is a bit of an anticlimax, like cerulean said. I think the audience almost cares more about whether Frasier will get the party of musicians and angels out in time, than whether Daphne will accept or not.

My Coffee With Niles - candidate for best episode ever! The theatricality of the realtime setting gets me every time. And the great coffee-spray!

My Coffee With Niles - candidate for best episode ever! The theatricality of the realtime setting gets me every time. And the great coffee-spray! My Coffee with Niles - gem of an episode. A piece of sublime 22 minute theatre. Not a superfluous word. Prime example of Frasier raising sitcom to a new level. It's everything I love about the show. Two brothers who by the end of the first season have become kindred spirits. Telling interventions by the secondary characters. By the end of the episode we know how far they've all come. Such a feel good show. And it still manages to be very very funny. Thank you writers, actors, everyone! Highlights for me are David's speech about the boy in the Dust Bowl with new shoes experiencing 'pure and utter happiness', and this bit near the end: Martin: What do you guys talk about all the time? Niles: Oh, you know - sports, chicks, monster truck rallies...I introduced my son to Frasier when he was home on vacation at Christmas 2006 and we would watch this episode together again and again. (Hi Steve, if you're lurking from your Oxford ivory tower). Oh yes, and the coffee spray! ;D
