Yes, Iago! Iago! Iago! And definitely with the hint of gayness a la KB! He'd be perfect.

I still would love to see David branch out *cough*Iago*cough* ... YES! Especially if he gave it the hint of gayness a la Kenneth Branagh. I would pay very good money to see that.

I keep saying this, but Robespierre in Danton's Death. "Why do my thoughts seem to spy on one another?" Oooh, why doesn't someone revive that with him in it?
Muffin, do you think the reviews of AoY are a bit harsh? They were much more forgiving of him doing lightweight in Curtains. It's almost like this time there's a kind of impatience in the crits, as if they too want D to stretch himself, and it's making them a bit more scathing of the material he's in than they should be.

Wooow, thank you so much muffin!I love reading reports like this!I just ordered the script of AoY because I think it sounds very interesting!I'm always....well almost relieved to hear how charming and lovely David is when you meet him.I know that many other people aren't that way and on one hand I understand it...I mean...they must be tired and especially if there are lots of fans waiting for you every night...I wouldn't always be so patient. But on the other hand, knowing that David takes time for his fans etc. is great and just gets my hopes up that when I meet him,he'll be just as nice.

Glad you enjoyed, Rose. I would like to order the script myself. Where would I get it? I've forgotten bits that happened and would like to read it. David always takes the trouble to meet his fans and pose for photos. He's always very pleasant and patient and kind and considerate, and will speak politely. He won't chat away like some, but you could get one of his wonderful quips and a lovely smile. Jules, I haven't read all the reviews. The plot does meander a little and people nowadays don't see a romance between a 50 something and a 20 something the same way as they did in the thirties. So they feel it's somewhat dated. I think from what I've read, at least, that these are their main criticisms. I think David is given praise generally. He's in his comfort zone but he's just soooo good at it. I've always said I'd love to see him in something meatier. But having seen this I realised that Curtains was the only thing I'd seen him in live up until now. The romance in that was stylised because it was a musical. I never got the chance to see him in a taping of Frasier for example. In AoY I had a chance to see him acting in a proper romance live on stage and his warmth and likeability were tangible. It was wonderful to see that. Next I'd like to see him in a different role. He mentioned Chekov in that Playbill interview. I'd go to see that.

I need to find out more about this play ... I think revivals are under more scrutiny than original shows like Curtains, cause they need to justify their being dusted off by being either A: incredibly powerful or B: somehow still relevant to today's audiences. Accent On Youth, bless it, is apparently neither.

Great reviews Tiggosaurus and Muffin. :)I actually did a script analysis paper on this play last semester and the script is great. I agree Lemur that revivals are under a lot of scrutiny, although I also think this play is very much relevant today. It's really a play about more than just the idea of a 51 year old man falling for a 26 yr old woman. I think the problem though is that (no offense to anyone)so often when our generation hears that most of the characters are of the (again no offense to anyone, because 51 is by no means old in my book) older generation, they just tune out and think why would anyone want to see a play about older people. I think if they went to see it they would love it and realize it still has relevance.
