Does anyone else get a little annoyed about the way English food is treated on Frasier? The inapprorpiate snobbery and the way English traditional food is used disparagingly to get a silly cheap laugh? A little rich coming from the country that invented Twinkies and corn dogs. And, I mean, what gives them the idea calves' brains is a delicacy, but shepherd's pie is just disgusting? I know which I'd rather eat any day. Oooh...and DHP on some documentary saying 'well of course you English eat beans on toast', with such a superior little look on his face. I mean I love him, but.... grrrrrrrr!

Though the Craneboys do show equal disdain towards Martin's penchant for hot dogs and 'pasteurised processed cheese flavoured snack food'. They're all about Chez Henri. Hee. I must see this. Can you remember what documentary it was? Must admit I don't love English food myself (or indeed Irish food). Would happily live on Italian and Chinese for the rest of my life.

Oooh...and DHP on some documentary saying 'well of course you English eat beans on toast', with such a superior little look on his face. I mean I love him, but.... grrrrrrrr! Ooh you've brought up a subject dear to my heart. Pull up a chair! First - come on, David, you can't beat beans on toast!! Quick, tasty, inexpensive, relatively healthy snack, beloved by students. It is a bit rich Americans complaining about British food I agree. It was a bit of a surprise to me too as Brits do joke and act all superior about American food. My first trip to the US was to the Orlando theme parks. It was junk food or nothing. And what about the portions!?! Since then to be fair I've eaten some fabulous food in New York! But we have some absolutely wonderful restaurants in the UK. They compare with the best anywhere. Eating out is a delight. One of my favourite things to do. And it doesn't need to be expensive. Some restaurants even come with views of romantically floodlit ancient castles as a bonus! Beat that America! Introduced an American couple to 'Death by Chocolate' at a local restaurant last year and as I recall they actually did die - of happiness of course. Having said that as an more mature member of the forum I do remember British food in the 60s and 70s. Some of it was horrendous. I think in this regard the humour in Frasier is just out of date. A bit of a tired old joke and that came to them via the French I suspect! But please don't ever take the Frasier writers to any catering outlets on the British Motorway system. I visited one on the M6 near Manchester on Friday. Ick. Talk about 'God awful Shepherd's Pie'! Shepherd's pie made properly is delicious but this stuff could have been used to build a wall. No veggies included and for two of us with soft drinks it came to over £19!!! I decided they were trying to be ironic and retro (well, apart from the price)! Haggis anyone?

I prefer English food. I go to a pub every now and then and they have the best stuff. I love shepherd's pie and mushy peas! Fish and chips... last night I ate something called the Fisherman's pie. It was shepherd's pie but instead of beef, it had fish, mashed potatoes with melted cheese! MMMMMM!!!
American food is yucky! I'm thankful for other places to eat. Sushi...YUMMY!
