This is the thread for bemoaning the fact we missed him in so much good theatre. If you wanna torment yourself with the good things we didn't saw then there's a (more or less) full rundown of his theatre credits HEREMy top choices.... - Lysander in the 1985 Midsummer Night's Dream.
Brian Hargrove played Demetrius in the same production. What a treat to see them both, all young, working together. Apparently there was a knife fight?!
- Gene in The Author's Voice(1987).
Just sounds such a wonderfully bizarre play, and D's part would have called for some stupendous acting. And an interesting gay subtext.
- Laertes in Hamlet (1986). Kevin Kline and DHP in one production. OMG!

Yes, this list is tormenting me, Jules! I was all young myself then. The nearest I got to the States in the 80's was a trip to Canada to visit relatives in 1983... Has anyone got a time machine so I can see young David and young Brian as Lysander and Demetrius? A knife fight you said! And didn't David say he found all the laughs when he played Laertes? A bit of an exaggeration I expect but, I wish I'd been there to see that. ;D Bringing things more up to date, as I've said elsewhere I would have loved to have seen him in Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks with Uta Hagen.

You guys have mentioned all the good ones! MWND for sure. It's even gratifying that they cast two such different looking actors, because in a lot of productions Lysander and Demetrius are almost clones (probably to highlight the interchangeability of the lovers, but it still irks me).
And Hamlet of course. Did he also understudy for KK or did I make that up?
The Author's Voice sounds wonderfully deranged and so unlike anything I've seen him do.
He was apparently very good in Elliott Loves, and that was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Oliver Platt and Christine Baranski, so the credentials are good.
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks - yes! I think one review said he was "much better than he has a right to be."

Like everyone else, I would love to have seen A Midsummer Night's Dream. Harriet Harris (Agent Bebe!) played Titania, so that's another reason I'd want to see it.
With everything David's said about Uta Hagen, I'm sorry I missed Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. The Winter's Tale, because I love the play. Also Trial by Jury because it would be nice to see David with his hometown crowd.
Heck, I'd jump at the chance to see any of the theatre he's done.

Lemur and I have an idea to write to the Guthrie Theatre, which staged MSND, and ask them if they could allow us to have any old production pics or other info for the website and Gallery. It'd be great to have a really good record of his earlier shows.
Tigzy did find one very small and blurry pic of D and B in the play. I'll post it, if I can find it again.

I would love to see him in that one mentioned in that interview he had right after his Tony nomination, that someone posted on here. I believe the woman said it was The Heidi chronicles, the one in which he played the pediatrician I think it was. Also Spamalot and Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, as well as any of his other work.

I can't do website thingys but I could contact theatres.

Ooh, and of course An Oak Tree! He played the part of the father, who (I think) confronts the driver who hit his son in a road accident. Interesting thing about this play is that the actor who plays the father changes every night and has no script, so they improv the whole thing. Sounds like a terrifying challenge but I bet David pulled it off.

You won't be surprised to hear his performance was stunning. I would have given up limbs and several teeth to have seen this. I could probably find the post pretty easily, but I'm not sure what the etiquette is (if there is any) re taking stuff from other websites.
