Hey guys, there's a new video on the official Accent on Youth website from Broadway.com It's an interview with Mary Catherine Garrison, who's going through hell just now as David's love interest in the play. She tells us a bit more about the play and what it's like working with David. www.mtc-nyc.org/current-season/accentyouth/reviews.asp

But don't you sometimes wonder if anyone ever has anything even slightly negative to say about David!? It's like everyone loves him all the time!

"He's dreamy" - bless! She's a cutie. Know what you mean though Jules. Be fun if, just once, he got drunk and started acting like a total diva. "I'm David Hyde Pierce - I could have you killed!" or somesuch.

But don't you sometimes wonder if anyone ever has anything even slightly negative to say about David!? It's like everyone loves him all the time! Yes, he always gets the same reaction. She seemed absolutely genuine and almost apologised for being so effusive. Fascinating. Well he's probably human, but I think he's just a really nice guy and a great actor to work with, smart, attractive, generous, highly talented. And she says he's hilarious of course. Wit can often diffuse any potentially difficult situations and be a way of nicely putting a point of view across, and it must make working with him such fun. Who wouldn't love the chance to work with someone like that. He's not exactly difficult to like.

Well, he obviously is really charming, likeable, funny and sweet and all the rest of it . But at the same time, I think show business does expect co-stars to gush about each other. Pity in a way. It'd be so much more interesting if they could be a bit 'warts and all'.

It'd be so much more interesting if they could be a bit 'warts and all'. Of course show biz people are notoriously gushing. However I do feel they genuinly feel this re David. You see, I'm not usually taken in by that kind of thing at all think it can sound very false and hypcritical, particularly to a cynical Scot. I may have said this ages ago, but I spoke to Karen Ziemba and Jill Paice at some length outside Curtains in 2007 and they went out of their way to say nice things about David. It wasn't just reflex or politeness or showbiz gushing, or that they were preaching to the choir. You needed to be there. They insisted he really was the 'kindest guy in showbusiness'. It's not me saying that, it's them. Either they believe it to be true or he's paid everyone an awful lot of money!

I have to agree with muffin on this. Every single cast or creative member at Curtains who I talked to on the occasions I saw it seemed to have a genuine affection for DHP (when they mentioned him). Of course they wouldn't be so unprofessional as to say anything derogatory if they felt that way, but I definitely get the sense that he inspires great loyalty among those he works with. I think the reaction to his Tony win is proof of this - not only the joy and excitement on his co-stars faces, but the report I read which said that the whole cast and crew celebrated as if they'd won the Best Musical gong because DHP made sure it was all about them and not just him. I can well imagine the cast and crew of AoY feeling a similar affection for the guy. Maybe I'm the one gushing now...
